"What good did the creature of the earth do to the clouds that pour the rain? So indeed should you serve society seeking no return. There is no pleasure in this world or in the other world equal to the joy of being helpful to those around you. Do not lose the opportunity for this rare pleasure. That alone is a gift which is given to the needy. Gifts to others are in the nature of business transactions wherein what is given is expected to be duly returned"

(THIRUKKURAL
is one of the greatest poetical composition of antiquity written ever in
Indian Literature)
CHILD
WELFARE:
The children in our orphanage are admitted from time to time. We normally admit those kids whose parents are
diseased. The total strength of our ashram is always fixed to 300 at this time.
The inflow and outflow is balanced by the number of people who graduate from
10th grade/standard every year. Generally One Parent Kids are not admitted , but
considering their conditions and their poverty the ashram authorities do make
exceptions towards the admissions for the kids whose father or mother
is still surviving. Pure Orphans are our number one priority. We provide not only
a hygienic environment, balanced & nutritious food, clothing, and shelter but also education with love and affection, and above all
morals,
basic family values and culture.
We do get babies from Bus stand, Railway stations,
Temples, and even our Gurukulam's main gate too. Abandoned babies are also sent from hospitals who are admitted
in our organization with out any reservations. These kids are neglected as they are
physically handicapped, aids affected, mentally retarded, spastic, and other various deformity like blind, deaf etc.
Our ashram gladly accepts and admits such children and we do get an unexplainable
sense of
satisfaction of having served these children who are to be protected and taken care and also rehabilitated.
Care is taken to admit these kids in the orphanage with proper verification of the parent hood.
The Government agencies at the level of "Tasildar" certifies that the parents of a kid is diseased and that they need support form any of the
N.G.Os. The Tasildar also checks & certifies that the annual income of the guardian is less then a sum of Rs.
2400/- and finally qualifies the admission in an orphanage. Moreover, a secured
document preferably "F.I.R" is also obtained from the local police
station in certain cases, in order to legally secure the institution.
OLD AGE HOME:
The idea of starting an old age home was proposed by His Holiness Sankaracharya of Kanchee Mutt when he visited the orphanage. It is due to his efforts a home for the aged was started in the year 1985 and inaugurated by
SHRI R. VENKATARAMAN, the then Honorable Vice-President of India.
ONE
OF THE MAJOR ADVANTAGES OF OUR ORGANIZATION IS THAT ALL THE 300 ORPHANED KIDS HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE 80 ODD SENIOR CITIZENS
WHO
THEMSELVES ARE NEGLECTED BY THEIR KITH AND KIN. THE KIDS DO NOT FEEL THAT THEY ARE BORN AS ORPHANS AND THEY CAN SELECT ONE
OR MORE OF THE 80 OLD PERSONS AS THEIR FATHER ,MOTHER, GRANDMA OR GRANDPA. IN RETURN THE OLD GET LOVE AND AFFECTION FROM MORE
THAN 300 TINY TOTS AND SHARE
THEIR JOY WITH THEM, WHICH THEY NEED AT THIS JUNCTURE OF THEIR LIFE. THERE IS A TRANSFORMATION OF LOVE AND AFFECTION BY BOTH THE KIDS AND THE ELDERS. ON FESTIVAL OCCASIONS THE KIDS GET BLESSINGS AND THE YOUNG ONES
FEEL THAT THEY ARE CARED.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING UNITS:
It was in the year 1981 a new Unit for the destitute women was inaugurated by
Shri N. D. Tiwari who was then the Honorable Minister for Industries, Government
of India. It was due to the initiative of Dr. S. Rajaram, the orphanage got a donation of rebuilt typewriters from
S.P. GODREJ an Industrialist from Bombay. The destitute women are given one year training which is aided and recognized by the department of Social Welfare and
the Technical Education, Government of Tamilnadu. The destitute women are not only given training but are also
employed in the various organizations, private, public, etc., who are well-wishers of the organization.
MEDICAL DISPENSARY:
The Ashram has a dispensary in which a Doctor takes care of not only the kids
& elders of the institution, but also the villagers of Chengalpattu MGR
District.
SCHOOL:
The institution runs both primary and high schools headed by Dr. S. Rajaram
accredited by the State Government thereby benefiting the orphans and thousands of rural children
in and around Chengalpattu MGR District.
A SEMINAR ON PROMOTION OF NATIONAL INTEGRATION AND MASS FEEDING :
Dr. S. Rajaram wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to sanction grants for conducting 5 Seminars
during 5 National Festivals of our Country. The Government accepted his
suggestion for a seminar and mass feeding for thousands of villagers for five festivals. Due to his initiative the organization conducted seminars
on promotion of national integration and mass feeding by inviting VIPs and Ministers. Thousands of villagers attended the seminar
and got benefited. This approach resulted as a very good platform for the villagers to
understand the reality of life, create sense of Unity, and promote National Integration.
REHABILITATION OF SRI LANKA ORPHAN CHILDREN:
The riots in Sri Lanka was a rude shock for everyone as the people from Indian origin were badly affected. When the trouble started and refugee camp in Mandapam near Rameswaram, Dr. S. Rajaram wrote to the Government of India that he is prepared to admit 50 orphan children who are parentless or helpless in the orphanage and try to rehabilitate them. He proceeded to Rameswaram and worked in the relief camp for a week along with
Shri Ramakrishna Mission. He identified the children and fulfilled all the formalities and gave asylum to 50 orphan
children at Sivananda Gurukulam.
